Commercial and residential owners who find plumbing problems in their water or sewer lines need professional evaluations. At Maccarone Plumbing, we provide our customers in Long Island and Five Boroughs with the best options for repairing or replacing your pipelines.
What’s the Difference Between Repiping and Repairing Your Line?
You will only need a repair if a small portion of the existing pipe or valves are cracked or corroded.
However, we suggest repiping if you are experiencing these problems:
- Substantial leaking
- Severe corrosion
- Leaking under a slab
If you have an attic where the pipes are exposed and run through the walls, it may be easier to repair any leaking lines; but if the affected pipes are leaking under a slab, it is better to invest in repiping. Once plumbing lines start to leak under a slab, it will lead to further cracks and leaks in the pipeline. In this situation, we will repipe the whole line and move the pipes to the attic and walls, where they are easier to access.
To better gauge whether you need repiping or a repair, we will use a video camera to inspect your piping. This inspection allows us to see the inside condition of your pipes and where the major problems have developed.
Should You Go For Copper or PEX Pipes?
So you’ll be needing a repipe. What kind of pipe material should you use?
Copper piping is very popular in homes and commercial buildings. Repiping is a permanent solution, and copper piping will give you greater water pressure, improve the delivery of hot water, and lower your energy bills by having an efficient system that is running properly. Copper piping is also extremely durable and will last for 20 years or more.
PEX piping has thicker walls than copper piping, which makes PEX a quieter choice. Copper piping tends to make echoing sounds if placed in the attic or not insulated well enough. PEX piping is not metallic and will not produce the ringing sounds if hit. It is faster to install PEX pipes because there is no need for soldering. Compared to copper, PEX pipes are less costly and are easier to maneuver around corners.
We will help you choose the right material that fits your specific needs and budget. Our expert plumbers will install your new pipes in small areas where there are leaks, or throughout the entire home or business.
